A woodsy owl card for your hip Valentine.

2 bucks from Rock Scissors Paper

From owls to Valentine’s in one fell swoop. Yes, that’s right. Our wise and feathered friends have been a fun distraction, but we have to get back to the serious business of Valentine’s Day. We must endeavor to love and be loved. We must toil to open out hearts. We must exert our romance and strive at our embracing.

And how are we to undertake these love-efforts? With a bit of quirky internet surfing and a few well-placed artsy curios, that’s how.

Who loves you? The Cowgirl does.

Owl Belt January 31, 2007

Filed under: Accessories — winnow & sift @ 5:59 pm

Kud_owl_sash_belt

This owl started its life as a 70s trivet. Discovered by an artist, cast in metal, and paired with a lovely soft sash belt, it is now a bohemian-elegant belt buckle.

Isn’t that a hopeful story? Who knows what stylish things might be forged from the dated knick-knacks in our souls?

I like felt. I like it even better when it is transformed into a neat plush owl. A little pocket on the back of this owl holds your notes, letters or secret messages — it even comes with a special owl notecard to get you started.

I always suspected owls could keep a secret.

Why have water rings when you can have this coaster instead?
This owl will keep an eye on your beer, wine, coffee, tea, and fruit juices of all kinds. He does not care for Tab, however.

Owl Backpack January 30, 2007

Dwel_owl_backpack_lrg

The best darn backpack I have seen in quite awhile. Not only is it snazzy, it has an intersting story, too. It is made by a collective of knitters in rural Kenya. The collective is involved with the East Africa Hub, a non-profit organization comprised of socially responsible businesses that provide a link between artisans and the marketplace. So look owl-mazing and support a good thing, all at once.

Is it a pillow or a stuffed animal? Whooo am I to decide? I can say that it is cute and cozy and really much bigger than it looks in this picture — 12″ x 14″.

Imported from Morocco and designed by Moulay Essakalli and Julie Klear whose illustrations have been showcased in museums and galleries nationwide.

I heart owls January 29, 2007

Filed under: Cowgirl Ruminations — winnow & sift @ 5:21 pm

The Valentine’s love-fest will continue, but I thought we would take a break and enjoy a few OWLS. They are everywhere! Because I am not a field mouse, this makes me happy.
