A square cake is tasty.
A round cake is very nice.
But an entire nine car train of cake?

Fantastic!

34 bucks (a lot for a pan, maybe . . . but what a bargain for a locomotive!) from Williams-Sonoma

I have featured things by the talented Figs & Ginger metal working studio before. I was so sad to learn today that Elijah Wyman, who along with Rhonda Wyman is the dynamic duo behind Figs & Ginger, is soon to undergo surgery for a kidney transplant.

If you believe in supporting artists, this would be a great time to show your love. Buy a lovely something through the Figs & Ginger website, or donate directly.

a container for one thing May 24, 2007

When I was in fourth grade I received a post card that changed my life. It was a white card with a small hole, a little bigger than a pea, cut into the middle. On the back was written “a hole to see the sky through.” So, I did as Yoko Ono (it was designed by Yoko, not written to me from Yoko!) commanded and went outside and looked at the sky through the hole.

The sky looked different. The clouds moved past my little aperture. Then blue. Then clouds again. I discovered that without the distraction of trees and telephone wires, without the vastness of the whole sky, I could see more clearly.

There are so many things. Sometimes it feels good to look at just one.

This container is designed to help you focus on a single beautiful thing. Maybe a little pot of mint. Maybe half a robin’s egg you found by the bus stop. Maybe a pebble from the lake.

Simple things can be so satisfying when we take the time — and clear the space — to really see them.

And speaking of clean, this curtain is PVC-free.

Freedom is just another word for not lugging a purse around all night.

This delightful little wallet slips on your key ring and is just big enough to carry a little cash. If only they made teeny tiny drivers licenses! Ah well, to be this sleek, I will walk.

All that and a bug!
